about

In noise, frequencies sweep and swell unburdened by names. Carefully tracing the contours of this undifferentiated space, we can observe the instability, diversity, and intensity of a broad noise ecology. We do not access these otherworlds by standard instrumentation, but instead by repurposed tools tied like colorful nets. Feedback Mixing is the debut album of Phonets, featuring a collection of works improvised on a Mackie Micro Series 1202-VLZ mixing board patched as a no-input feedback instrument.

Track List:

ceramics (4:58). No-input mixing board.

retention pond drainage structure (8:54). No-input mixing board and field recordings. Recordings were taken from the water’s edge at Lake Betz in Morrisville, North Carolina.

picture of a picture of a picture (4:44). No-input mixing board. The initial material was re-recorded through the mixing board with additional channels of feedback. Then again, and again.
